Anonymous Hacks North Korea Twitter and Flickr Accounts and Issues List of Demands

Impact

The hacker group Anonymous took over the Twitter and Flickr feeds of North Korea’s central news agency, Uriminzokkiri, early on April 4. The websites are normally used to post patriotic photos of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un meeting important people. The hacktivist group uploaded several photos to the agencies Flickr page. They also announced— to the more than 13,000 followers of @uriminzok—that the website Uriminzokkiri.com had been hacked. Links on the Twitter feed directed users to the Flickr account where Anonymous left some trademark calling cards.

One of the photos uploaded to the Flickr account shows Kim’s face with a pig snout, ears and a tattoo of Mickey Mouse.

The Twitter for the new agency now looks more like this:

The group claimed responsibility for the hacks and also said that they were able to acquire about 15,000 user records from Uriminzokkiri.com, which remains offline. Anonymous posted responsibility for the hacks on Pastebin yesterday along with a list of demands. The collective also addressed how they were able to gain acces into the N.K. intranet.

"We have a few guys on the ground who managed to bring the real internet into the country using a chain of long distance WiFi repeaters with proprietary frequencies, so they're not jammed (yet). We also have access to some N.K. phone landlines which are connected to Kwangmyong through dial-ups. Last missing peace of puzzle was to interconnect the two networks, which those guys finally managed to do."

Here is a a partial list of the demands Anonymous has made, the full list can be read here:

Hello, citizens of the world.

North Korean government is increasingly becoming a threat to peace and freedom.
