Masters Tournament 2013 Results and Predictions: Can Tiger Woods Get His 5th Green Jacket?

Culture

The 77th Masters field is loaded with sleeping giants, fan favorites and big hitters. Will this be the year Tiger Woods turns things around or will Bubba Watson and the "Golf Boys" remain the talk of the tee box?

Tiger Woods (3/1)

Woods hasn't won a major since he knocked off Rocco Mediate in a playoff at Torrey Pines back in 2008. So why is he the favorite at Augusta? Try 10 top-5 finishes, four green jackets at the Masters and a dominate win at Doral just a month ago. Additionally, Woods has been wielding a hot blade since getting advice from the Steve Stricker who is widely considered to be the finest putter in the world. Woods' odds have dropped from last year when he was a 4/1 favorite, which speaks to the gambling community's renewed faith in him. I would be shocked if he wasn't in the mix for his fifth green jacket on Sunday.

Fade

Rory McIlroy (12/1)

Rory hasn't been himself in 2013 and his slow start to the year combined with his dismal showings at Augusta (T20, CUT, T15, T40) do not inspire confidence. And don't be fooled by his solid showing at the Texas Open, if the former number one was on his game he would have won that tournament going away. Johnny Miller believes his switch to Nike clubs will hurt him at the Masters and the numbers back him up. McIlroy has been widely inconsistent with the Nike gear, so I'd steer clear of the young gun until he switches back to his trusty Titleists.

Worth The Gamble

Play

Dustin Johnson (30/1)

The 28-year old isn't short on talent or confidence. His length off the tee is a major advantage at Augusta, giving him multiple eagle opportunities on the course's four par 5s.   The key for Johnson will be putting well on Thursday and Friday. Having never finished better than 30th at the Masters, Johnson needs some early success to boost his ego. Bubba Watson showed last year what an inventive player with incredible length can accomplish, so the blueprint is there for Johnson. Watson came off the board at 40/1 last year, so don't be afraid to pull the trigger on him.

Fade

Brandt Snedeker (18/1)

Snedeker has looked strong in 2013, highlighted by his play at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February. Currently he's 5th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), so why fade the Tennessean? A rib injury last month derailed his game and he hasn't proven he's fully recovered. Toss in the fact that he hasn't cracked the top ten in his last three Masters and I'd look elsewhere on the board for value.
