Homeless Man Wins the Lottery, Chooses to Stay Homeless

Culture

After buying a scratch-card lottery card from a local gas station in Bloomington, Illinois, a homeless man, Dennis Mahurin, won a jackpot of $50,000. Just like that. "I scratched it off right here in my tent,” he says.

What will he do with his new found fortune? One would expect a man who's been homeless since 1978 would want to find himself a home, splurge on some awesome clothes or some brand new shoes maybe? Nope. Dennis Mahurin intends on staying exactly where he is. Outside. Although he may "upgrade to a new tent," he wants to maintain his lifestyle. I'm "happy as can be in my nature," he told CNN.

Although he does intend to spend some of the cash on himself on stuff like dental work or paying a visit to his son, the man wants to spread some of his fortune around too.

"With all the other homeless people around here, I've made up my mind,” the man said. "I'm gonna give them each $100."

Could he be the most amazing lottery winner of all time?
