Steve Stockman: "If Babies Had Guns, They Wouldn't Be Aborted"

Impact

'Tis the season to set ablaze the Twittersphere: Texas Congressman Steve Stockman fired into two controversial issues with his new re-election campaign bumper sticker: "If babies had guns, they wouldn't be aborted. Vote pro-life."

The super conservative Republican tweeted out the slogan, including a hash-tag "Gosnell" to bring attention to the trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, who was arrested last year on murder charges for killing an adult and several newborn babies.

Stockman, a pro-gun and anti-abortion-rights congressman, is known for eyebrow-raising actions in the past. He has threatened the president with impeachment over his gun control efforts and urged "persecuted" gun owners and manufacturers to move to Texas. For the State of the Union (February 2, 2013), he brought controversial rocker Ted Nugent as his guest. Nugent is known for his staunch conservative political views, his strong advocacy for hunting and gun ownership, and statements such as "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year" that profess strong aversion against the Obama government.

In 2013 Stockman returned to the U.S. House of Representatives advocating a limited government and strong support for American families, a robust military, and a balanced budget. He has voted to cut taxes, his own pay and pension, and the number of congressional committees, and has opted to maintain a balanced budget.

Stockman likes to maintain an avid presence on Twitter.  Some of his most controversial tweets in the past include:

"Obama has no sympathy for unarmed women raped by criminals. #SOTU Gun control creates more crime."

"The best thing about the Earth is if you poke holes in it oil and gas come out."

"Liberals love diversity. That's why they to punish anyone who doesn't think, act, eat, drink, drive and speak exactly like them."

Stockman's most recent tweet has resulted in a variety of opinions. Some have pointed out that this statement is pure lunacy. Others have expressed approval of the slogan and Stockman's mission.
