Justin Bieber Anne Frank House: Singer Writes in Guestbook He Hopes Holocaust Victim "Would Have Been a Belieber"

Culture

Justin Bieber's youth and optimism seem to have clouded his judgement yet again. Ahead of a concert he was giving in the Netherlands, Bieber went to visit the Anne Frank House museum where he stayed over an hour.

The museum posted the comments Justin Bieber left in the museum guest book on their Facebook wall.

I'll admit, upon first reading about this, I thought it was a really elaborate Onion article. The Anne Frank House Twitter account also verified the Bieber statement.

I get it, he's 19 and never really had a normal childhood and probably lacks the grounding necessary to make informed decisions, but this is beyond poor taste. "Anne was a great girl..." No. It's not like Anne was your next door neighbor who let you play in her sandbox. Otto Fank, Anne's father, had transcribed the diary for his family in Switzerland, it was published in English for the first time in 1952. The book is widely considered to be one of the best books of the 20th century.

I keep coming back to how how surreal the entire scene must have been as Bieber fans crowded outside the Anne Frank House, as Justin Bieber pondered the life of a young girl whose fame and immense contribution to society would not be known until after her death.

Perhaps I'm over reacting, or just caring too much, but something about this entire scenario is incredibly depressing to me. What do you all think?

If you know any rabid Bieber fans, please have them direct all their outrage to me @missafayres
