Venezuela Elections 2013: Henrique Capriles Votes in Caracas

Impact

Henrique Capriles Radonski, a popular governor from the opposition, who lost to the late socialist leader Hugo Chavez last October, and is now challenging Chavista Nicolas Maduro in Sunday's Venezuelan presidential elections, has voted in Caracas — reported Globovision

Capriles, who according to the latest polls is closing the gap on long-favored Maduro, voted in school Santo Tomás de Villanueva, located in Baruta — a middle-class municipaity of Miranda state, where Capriles is governor.

According to local polling firm Datanalisis, Maduro led Capriles last week by as much as ten percentage points. However, a series of campaign gaffes by Maduro, who Venezuelans say also lacks Chavez's charisma, seemed to have fueled a late surge by the opposing candidate — affectionately known by his supporters as El Flaco ("the skinny one").
