MIT Shooting Update: Officer Dead, School Tells Students to Stay Indoors

The Massachusetts State Police have announced that the MIT police officer who was shot late Thursday night, has died of his injuries. He has not yet been identified. MIT provided this update to the university community:

Update on shooter incident.  Responding agencies continue to investigate the situation.  Police are sweeping the campus at this time, please continue to stay indoors and remain inside until further notice.

The gunman in question reportedly robbed, or attempted to rob a 7/11 in Central Square in Cambridge, and fled the scene.
