These Little Girls Are Better At Designing Superheroes Than You

Culture

Once in a while, a Tumblr comes along that is so amazing that it restores my faith in humanity. This is one of them.

As Callie Beusman from Jezebel notes, when female superheroes aren't invisible, they are often sporting highly sexualized clothing and posing in particularly suggestive ways. In other words, female superheroes don't get to just be awesome for their cool superpowers; they are often boxed into the lady-category, which is often synonymous with primarily valuing their looks. Why has this become the norm? Maybe it's because we're still stuck in old boring narratives that dictate what "normal" is for women and girls.

What's the solution? If grown-ups haven't been able to solve this problem, get the mini-people involved. That's exactly what Alexandria Law did. She started a blog where she uses little girl's costume ideas to draw new superheroes.

"Kids are more impressionable than you, but kids can also be less restricted by cultural gender norms than you. Kids are more creative than you, and they're better at making superheroes than you," the creator says. Thanks to this amazing concept, Alexandria Law comes up with rad new superheroes like this one:

Need more proof that we should start listening to what little girls think to design superhero costumers? I got five.

1. Little girls think out of the box.

2. They aren't afraid of innovation and change. Even if it comes in light shade of pink.

3. They got some wicked moves.

4. They shouldn't have to dress up as a princess, when they look this dashing as a superhero.

5. They don't need any validation from you. They know they rock.
