Kentucky Derby 2013 Weather: Rain Expected at Churchill Downs

One of the major factors in the 2013 Kentucky Derby is the weather. The dirt track will absorb any hint of rainfall that comes upon, greatly changing the condition in which the 18-horse field will run under. The forecast for Saturday’s was a chance of showers.

No Kentucky Derby has ever been cancelled in the 138-year history of the event. It is unclear what the procedure will be if it is raining enough to seriously affect the track during the race.

As the below weather maps shows, a storm system is currently passing through Louisville, where the Kentucky Derby is held. It is unclear if it will clear by post time of 6:24 pm. EST.
