Tamerlan Tsarnaev Buried: By Refusing Him to Be Buried, the U.S. Is Showing Its Barbarism

Update: Boston Bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been buried. Worcester, Mass., police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst said a "courageous and compassionate individual" provided a burial plot.

Hazelhurst did not identify the burial site, but said Tsarnaev's body "is no longer in the city of Worcester and is entombed."

There are few customs more sacred to humans than how we treat our dead. Whether it is a full funeral and burial, shrouds and burning, cremation and hymns — we all seem to care how a body is laid to rest.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing, is not being allowed to rest in peace. It has been almost a month since the man has been pronounced dead immediately after a shootout with police. Tsarnaev's body was formally released by authorities on May 1, and his family has claimed him and wants to give him a burial. Instead, his body is being guarded 24 hours a day at a funeral home outside of Boston while the family tries to find a city willing to allow his body to be buried in one of the 120 offered burial plots, in the U.S. or elsewhere.

The Worcester, Mass., chief of police sent out a plea on Wednesday, asking for someone, somewhere to step forward:  “We are not barbarians. We bury the dead," said Worcester Police Chief Gary Gemme.

Russia won’t allow his body to be transported into their country.

The mayor of Boston said he doesn’t want the body buried in his town.

Every other arrangement that has been offered has fallen through, including a plot in a state prison site, mostly due to towns and cities refusing to allow the body to be buried within their limits.

The U.S. has had its share of monsters, and each and every one has been given a grave, be it marked or unmarked. And yet for some reason, this man isn’t given that privilege.

There have been countless articles asking why other countries and religions seemingly hate America … refusing a body burial and religious rites is a pretty good reason. But maybe that’s the new plan; maybe the U.S. hopes to deter future terrorists with the threat that if they die on U.S. soil they won’t be given a proper resting place.

Regardless of the heinous acts this man is purported to have done, he should be allowed his last rites.
