This Brilliant GIF Shows the Evolution Of Marriage Equality in the U.S.

Impact

As Minnesota votes on a marriage equality bill that would make it the 12th state to enact same-sex marriage in the United States, BuzzFeed posted this brilliant GIF that illustrates the progress — and lack thereof — of the gay rights movement in America. The GIF shows the evolution of marriage equality from 1970, when the first gay pride parades were held in four major cities on the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, to 2013 when the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in favor and against California's Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996.
