Seth Meyers Replacing Jimmy Fallon On 'Late Night'

Culture

Remember back when Jimmy Fallon was announced as the successor to NBCs Tonight Show and everyone was all joking about Seth Meyers succeeding Fallon? Apparently, we were all right for once. NBC made the announcement on Sunday, May 13. Fallon and Meyers are expected to take the reins of their respective shows next February during NBC's Olympic coverage.

Meyers was widely anticipated to take over for Fallon, it was the only person Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels could see having the position which has only had three hosts since its first airing in 1982. The Tonight Show will return to New York once Fallon takes over. Michaels will be in charge of all three of NBC's late night entertainment programs.

Speaking about his new position, Meyers said before last nights SNL, “Working at SNL requires 100% of your mental capacity — on easy weeks. And so I had not really spent a lot of time thinking about what I was going to do next. Obviously I can’t quit Lorne. So this seems like a pretty good deal that I have an opportunity to keep working with him.”

Meyers has a background in improvisational comedy and has been called one of the best comedy writers of his time. These skills will definitely serve him well as he prepares for the transition into late night host. Seth is hoping to bring some of the best parts of "Weekend Update" to Late Night, but right now he is just focusing on finishing out his time at SNL.

Congrats to you Seth!
