Impact

The New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Ronal Serpas said that twelve people were injured on Sunday during a Mother’s Day parade. The shootings occurred at the intersection of Frenchmen and N. Villere streets, no suspects are in custody. Local New Orleans affiliate WDSU-TV reports that a motivation for the shootings isn’t known but that police are looking for three possible suspects.

The shootings occurred just after 2 p.m. in the 7th Ward of New Orleans. Those injured include a 10-year-old girl, who sustained a minor wound, four other victims were taken to four local hospitals and are currently undergoing surgery. “While Serpas said there were about 300 to 400 people in the Mother's Day second line, about 200 people in the area of the shooting at the time. Serpas said about 10 NOPD officers were spread throughout the second line. He said three people were seen running from the shooting scene.

Serpas said those three suspects likely worked together, and at least two different weapons were used. One of the suspects is described as a man between 18 and 22 years old with short hair and wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, Serpas said.”

Thankfully, no fatalities have yet been reported. We hope this remains the case. This story is still developing.
