Angelina Jolie Mastectomy: Brad Pitt Says "This is a Happy Day For Our Family"

Culture

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie's husband, has just spoken out following her revelation about her preventative mastectomy. He describes her act as heroic and knows that her decision was best for her and their family.

"Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic. I thank our medical team for their care and focus," Pitt said.

"All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”

It's unclear whether Jolie will be undergoing a hysterectomy, since she explains that her chances of contracting ovarian cancer are 50%. In the piece she wrote for the New York Times, she explains that she wanted to 'start' with a mastectomy, which has lead to speculation that she may be considering surgery to prevent ovarian cancer as well.

"I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex." she writes in her op-ed.

Jolie's mother died at the age of 56 of ovarian cancer. "She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was." the actress wrote.
