Carl Levin: Apple Needed the Federal Government to Make Its Profits Yet Avoided Paying for It

Impact

Senator Levin makes the point that many of the services that Apple requires for its vast profits come from the Federal and state government, from a legal system that protects it intellectual properties to the infrastructure provided by the government to allow Apple to ship its products to its consumers

Levin even invoked former President Ronald Reagan, who during his presidency decried tax avoidance by both individuals and corporations. Showing that this hearing is a bi-partisan matter, Levin allow Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) who began to make the same points as Levin on how Apple systematically engaged in tax avoidance.
