Apple Taxes: Rand Paul Calls Whole Apple Testimony a "Show Trial"

Impact

Senator Rand Paul (R-K.Y.) took a contrarian tone as is usual with any event that he is involved with that invokes taxes.

Decrying it as a “show trial,” that “Congress needs to be on trial,” and that the committee should “hold up a mirror” to see who should be testifying,” Paul delivered his usual rhetoric about taxes and government.

Paul proceeded to say that the tax code needs to be fixed and said that the United States should look to Canada and European corporate tax systems, probably a first for Paul.

Senator Carl Levin fired back, pointing out that the Apple CEO Tim Cook had come willingly and that the whole testimony was to find out how the tax system as broken as Paul and that Senator Paul was “free to apologize” himself if he felt the need.
