Immigration Reform 2013: Bill Moves to Full Senate For Vote

The Senate Judiciary Committee recommended on Tuesday the Gang of Eight's immigration reform bill for a full Senate vote, reported ABC News.

The bill includes increased border security, a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants, and reforms designed to "streamline the process."

"We have a historic opportunity to end today's de facto amnesty and modernize our immigration system to meet our 21st century needs. I remain optimistic that the Senate, by improving the bill through an open and deliberative floor debate, will seize this opportunity," said Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a member of the Gang of Eight and a potential 2016 presidential contender. 

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who had introduced an amendment that would have granted LGBT Americans the right to sponsor their partners for immigration purposes, withdrew said amendment — which both Democrats and Republicans said would've broken the bipartisan coalition.
