Men With Moustaches Could Be the Unlikely Savior of America's Economy

Impact

On Capitol Hill this week, the Members of the American Mustache Institute were promoting the Stimulus to Allow Critical Hair Expense Act, or the STACHE Act. The STACHE Act calls for a $250 tax-break for men with facial hair. The AMI’s basis of argument is that these men are better looking than the rest of Americans anda are strong contributors to the economy, as they have to spend more on hair care.

In fact, AMI Chairman Aaron Perlut claims an annual hair care cost of $1000-$1500.

Don’t worry, women, this act isn’t biased. Perlut says anyone with hair care costs would be eligible for the $250 annual tax refund.

The bill may have difficulty getting passed because of lawmakers' focus on addressing the budget. But, maybe other legislation should also focus on getting more men to grow mustaches. A study done by John Yeutter, an associate professor of accounting and tax policy at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. connects mustaches with increasing income. Growing more mustaches could help stimulate the American economy. AMI claims you could gain 4.3% more annual income than someone clean shaven.

Coincidently, some of the most influential people are mustached men: Albert Einstein, Theodore Roosevelt, Reggie Jackson, and yes Dr. Phil. The mustache is a facial hair style dating as far back as 300 B.C. illustrated on a Scythian horseman (handle bars, none the less). Who knew that the solution to solving the economy was right under our noses.
