Sean Hannity: Fox News Show Descends Into a Childish Discussion Of "MILF"s

Impact

Wednesday on the Fox News show Hannity, Sean Hannity and correspondents Tamara Holder and Michelle Fields were discussing Adam Levine's muttered comment, "I hate this country." Well, that's what they should have been discussing, but the debate took a weird turn.

Fields was accusing liberals of claiming that conservatives "don't know how to take a joke." Holder then brought up Sarah Palin being called a MILF by Bill Maher, which conservatives reacted to negatively, understandably. Sean Hannity then asked Holder if it was appropriate to call a mother that, and Fields interrupted, recalling that Holder previously expressed that she thought of the term as flattering. Then, when Hannity asked Fields if she found the term offensive, she replied with "No, I don't. I'd rather be a MILF than a fat, loser woman." Fields interrupted with a large gesture exclaiming "I'd rather be respected!"

You can watch the exchange here:

I think it's clear that both women were being mean and rather childish. As for Tamara Holder's statement that she'd "rather be a MILF than a fat, loser woman," no matter her weight standards for herself, her comment was hurtful and unnecessary, as was the whole discussion. To regard people heavier than a certain weight as "losers" is extremely hateful. But more important, a woman's appearance should not influence how her work is regarded. One would assume that an accomplished woman with such a demanding career would feel that way.

Michelle Fields also behaved childishly by interrupting with a large gesture and drawing attention to herself and almost yelling "I'd rather be respected!" Which is a good message, of course — but was quite petty and unnecessary.
