"Game Of Thrones" Red Wedding: Much Revenge Remains to Be Served Cold After Last Night's Episode

This week on Game of Thrones left the chances of the most sympathetic House to a adjective worthy of its name: Stark. Arya Stark and the Hound develop a relationship that is decidedly Terminator 2-esque. Sadly, the young Stark girl had to say "Hasta La Vista, Baby" to a big chunk of her family before she could even say hello for the first time in years. When she arrives at the House of Frey she is greeted to an outpouring of soldiers, which is an indication that all has gone amiss.

Her brother Robb, the King of the North, was oathed to marry a Frey but couldn't ignore his love for Talisa, not to mention the distasteful manner in which the Lord Frey treats his family and subjects. Frey accepts an apology, weds one of his daughters to Robb's bannerman Edmure Tully, and perks up in a rare moment of celebration. The strangeness of his sudden and atypical happiness is confirmed during the post-wedding-and-bedding celebration when Lord Frey offers his daughter’s "gift." The Frey men brutally murder Robb, Catelyn, and their subjects in the middle of their own banquet hall. Although this surprised most viewers, its ultimate culprit did not; the murders are apparently at the behest of the other crotchety old man of Westeros, Tywin Lannister. The name of this episode is "The Rains of Castamere," the Lannister theme song, and tells the tale of another family that rose up against the Lannisters only to be exterminated to the last man by Tywin in cold blood. This song was the cue for Frey men to start their ambush, and how appropriate a soundtrack it was.

Jon Snow fails to participate in an attack on a Northerner, and is thus forced to flee the pack of wildlings who turn against him. This includes the taker of his V-card, the feisty wench Ygritte. This attack was on a castle that was occupied by Brann Stark and Co., the former of which uses his telepathic "Warg" powers to occupy a man's head to avoid detection, rather than the more typical animal mind control that other Wargs perform.

Daario Naharis continues his courtship of Daenerys Stormborn. He does this in the only way he knows, by sneaking around at night, killing men and submitting his bloody sword to the Mother of Dragons's will, smirking all the while. We do not see the dragons this episode; most likely, they will make an appearance in the next episode, this season's finale.

But nothing matters quite as much as the gory, cold-blooded mass murder of the Starks. We wonder how many names Arya will have to repeat to herself before she goes to bed. Who to seek revenge upon can be hard to remember when so many people have wronged you and yours.
