Culture

For Apple fanboys and fangirls, it's like Christmas in June. The annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is kicking off on Monday and will likely debut a number of new products, designs, and software.

But can we expect anything major? Rumor has it, we migh be in for some new hardware and software releases ... and maybe even a special surprise.

WWDC takes places June 10-14 in San Francisco, providing an in-depth look at the latest in iOS and OS X, as well as new hardware (like new Macbooks, iPads, and, iPhones

The biggest release expected during the WWDC will be new version of iOS, the mobile device software, and OS X, the Mac computer software.

The new iOS 7 is expected to have a complete visual overhaul of the traditional iOS interface, specific details of which have been kept tightly under wraps. Other updates to the iOS will be the addition of AirDrop, a file-sharing service already in the Mac computers and the addition of more built-in Yahoo apps.

Apple will hope iOS 7 is NOTHING like iOS 6, which, when it was announced, was a disaster. The iOS 6 Maps application packaged with Apple’s iOS 6 was heavily criticized due to the amount of errors in the app, many iPhone users began posting screenshots of the faulty application or creating parodies of it, criticizing the way locations are displayed.

*Fingers-crossed.

In other news, Apple’s rumored service release will be the debut of “iRadio”, an internet radio service. This service might seek to compete with rival Google’s own latest radio update to their ever-changing music service which now includes radio stations and unlimited streaming audio.

New hardware has always caused the biggest stir for Apple users. During the WWDC, Apple is expected to release updates to the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. 2013 is ripe for improvements with a new generation of chips from Intel just hitting the market.

Maybe a news iPhone? An iPhone 5s? We'll have to wait and find out.
