Maurice Sendak Google Doodle: Google Throws Maurice Sendak a Wild Rumpus For His Birthday

Impact

Google paid tribute to beloved children’s author Maurice Sendak today, with an amazing animated doodle chronicling several of Sendak's most famous stories, done in the style of his illustrations. He passed away last year on May 8, in Danbury, Connecticut. His longtime partner, Dr. Eugene Glynn, died in 2007.

The Doodle begins with Where The Wild Things Are, Sendak’s most famous story. It then continues through In the Night Kitchen, before landing (appropriately) on Bumble-Ardy, a book published in 2007 in which an orphaned pig throws himself a birthday party — the first book Sendak wrote and illustrated in 30 years. His last work, My Brother’s Book, was published posthumously.

Sendak is 85 today. Happy Birthday, from Google and all of us!
