Microsoft's media announcement to E3 opens up with Konami's Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game will finally take the world of MGS into sandbox territory, marking it as the first game in the series that allows for true open-world exploration.

Set in Afghanistan, the game currently seems to look like a cross between Red Dead: Redemption and Assassin's Creed.

Microsoft also announced that it would offer two free games per month to Xbox Live Gold members, with the first of the two being Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed II. Other highlights include the return of Lightning in Final Fantasy 14 and the September release of Grand Theft Auto V.
