Facebook Hashtags: 3 Ways They Will Change Your Social Media Universe

Culture

Social media is an everyday presence for many, and the hashtag (made famous by Twitter) has been made iconic. We use hashtags to add to and further describe a status or any photo on social media, and this has helped the hashtag become one of the lasting images of the social media evolution. From Tumblr, to Twitter, to Instagram, using a basic hashtag is something that is just part of the social media dynamic. It is no surprise then, that it is coming to Facebook.

As ABC News points out, “The move will make it easier to find what other people are saying about specific topic and events, something that people have typically gone to Twitter to do over Facebook.”

Over the next few weeks, all users will be able to create hashtags in posts and click on them. So, no more telling people that hashtags are just for Facebook because clearly they are everywhere.

Here are three reasons why hashtags are helpful:

1) They help promote a business or company. Whether you have a small business or you are the CEO of Coca-Cola, branding through social media is the way to go and hashtags just help to share things with more people.

2) They help you go viral. If you’re creating content then use the right amount of hashtags to promote yourself or your business. It could go big, or just big enough to get you enough likes or followers whatever your aim is.

3) They help you interact online. This may sound weird, but you can actually talk through hashtags. For teens these days, that’s really the only language they speak. Of course, don’t overuse hashtags because then people might think you’re annoying but it’s certainly helpful and good to use to form connections and followers.

Previously, hashtags were only used on Twitter, though now they are used on other social media sites as well. In some ways, though it all comes back to how you plan to use it to promote your brand and image. I’d like to think that we all have a brand and image that we want to show off or promote in some way.
