In Grantland Interview, Barack Obama Still Wants a College Football Playoff System

President Barack Obama is so ready for a college football playoff system. And that’s one thing that a huge portion of the rest of the country agrees with him on.

In an interview with sports website Grantland editor-in-chief Bill Simmons, Obama talked at length about issues in sports — ranging from Linsanity to the NBA lockouts — and also spent time laying out his case — again — for a college playoffs.

“At the end of the season, nobody knows who won,” Obama says.

“Part of what makes sports great … is every once in a while, something happens during the playoffs that shows the character of a team.”

Obama says he’d like the playoffs to be an eight team system.

President-elect Obama called for a college football playoff system in January 2009, and has repeatedly voiced his case in similar sports interviews.

He has also made the case of CBS’ 60 Minutes.

Clearly he’s devoted to this policy issue, and nobody can blame him for flip-flopping on this issue.

Still, Obama isn’t as passionate about other hot issues in sports.

Steroids in baseball: “I think baseball is in pretty good shape,” he says.

Concussions in football: “I don’t know whether you can make football football if there’s not some pretty significant risks for these guys.”
