Wii U and E3: Why Nintendo is in Serious Trouble

Culture

Nintendo is really not keeping up with Sony and Microsoft anymore. Without a new console, with the Wii U selling as badly as it is, and without any console-selling games coming out in 2013, this generation of Nintendo console gaming is in trouble.

All of the major exciting games for Wii U -- Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, for example -- aren't coming out until 2014, when PS4 and Xbox One will have already gained half a year of momentum. Adding to that, a chronic lack of third-party support and new IPs plague Nintendo's game offerings, and their brand new console is still stuck in current-generation technology.

While Nintendo's fate is far from sealed, this E3 didn't come with the surprise comeback announcements Nintendo fans were hoping for.
