Are Military Women On the Front Lines Advancing Feminism?

Impact

In recent years, there has been a huge influx in the amount of women joining the United States military. According to a recent AP article, women now make up about 14% of the 1.4 million active U.S. military personnel and more than 280,000 women have been sent overseas in support of the wars. There are even talks of women becoming Army Rangers as soon as mid-2015 and women Navy SEALs shortly after. But what impact are these changes having on American military?

Allowing women on the front lines actually weakens our army. Leaders, both men and women, within the military are speaking out against these changes; unfortunately, we live in a world that cares more about being politically correct than doing the right thing.

"I'm actually more concerned with the men and their reaction to women in their formations, quite frankly," stated director of force management for U.S. Special Operations Command, Maj. Gen. Bennet Sacolick.

Head of the conservative Center for Military Readiness, Elaine Donnelly, argued, "Due to physical differences that have been affirmed by more than 30 years of studies and reports on the subject, all possible options for implementing 'gender-neutral standards' would have the effect of lowering requirements."

In the name of sexual equality, we are willing to lower the requirements of being on the front lines of a war. This jeopardizes the lives of not only those women, but everyone else involved. If you are going to be on the front line, you need to have the physical strength to carry your partner off the battlefield and to safety.

Allowing women on the front lines actually weakens our army. Leaders, both men and women, within the military are speaking out against these changes; however, feminists are ignoring these concerns and simply claiming sexism.

Lowering the physical requirement to appease feminists puts those girls in situations they never should have been in, and endangers the other men and women who are literally trusting them with their lives.

Women have done an incredible amount of good for our country and they deserve to have an active role in our military, just not on the front lines in combat. We cannot be afraid of the sexism card when our troops' lives are on the line.
