FIFA Confederations Cup Scores 2013: Group B ends with Spain, Uruguay Victories

After group A concluded with two tightly-contested matches, much was expected from Sunday's slate. Yet things weren't nearly as close in group B, where Spain and Uruguay won by a combined 11-0 to advance to next week's semifinals. The two teams will face group A's Italy and Brazil, respectively.

The defending World Cup champions wasted no time against Nigeria Sunday, netting a goal in the third minute courtesy of defender Jordi Alba. Nigeria remained aggressive and counter-attacked all half, but ultimately came up empty-handed. Midfielder John Obi Mikel's shot was deflected off the crossbar, and Spain held off to go into the half up 1-0.

Spanish star Fernando Torres came off the bench for his side's second goal of the night, a beautiful header at 62' assisted by Pedro. The score puts him just one goal behind the tournament record, which is shared by former Mexican star Cuauhtemoc Blanco and legendary Brazil captain Ronaldinho. Alba would add a second goal in the 88th minute. With the win, Spain plays Italy, a hyped rematch of 2012's UEFA Euro final.

Uruguay had an even easier time with Tahiti, the punching bag of the tournament, winning handily by an 8-0 final. Abel Hernandez notched a first-half hat trick and four total goals while Luis Suarez added two to become Uruguay's all-time top scorer. Despite leaving without any points, Tahiti made a statement competing with the world's best in their first-ever senior FIFA tournament.

Uruguay will face Brazil in a South American showdown Wednesday.
