11 Pop Songs You Didn't Know Were Written By the One Republic Lead Singer

Ryan Tedder is best known as the main vocalist and founder of pop group, One Republic. Many people do not know, however, that before One Republic formed in 2007, Tedder's name had already graced the music industry.

Tedder had already established himself as a prominent songwriter and producer. He has co-written many chart-topping hits and has worked with a diverse group of artists from Adele and Leona Lewis to the Gym Class Heros and Sean Paul. 

1. Halo, Beyonce

Beyonce Knowles did not write her hit song, "Halo," the hit single featured on her 2008 album I Am Sasha Fierce. The genius behind the lyrics was none other than Ryan Tedder. In fact, rumor spread saying that Tedder originally wrote the song for Leona Lewis. Tedder, however, has denied the allegations, insisting that he wrote the lyrics for Beyonce. In January of 2009, the single reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

2. Rumor Has It, Adele

"Rumor Has It," the hit song on Adele's first career-making album "21," was co-written by the One Republic star. When the song hit it big, Tedder told Billboard, "I found out three days ago that I have the next single ... I'm very excited about it."

After the song was features in Fox's hit series Glee, it reached No. 60 on the Hot 100 in December 2011 before hitting the number one spot on Billboard's Triple A chart in August of 2012.

3. Bleeding Love, Leona Lewis

After Leona Lewis won season three of the U.K.'s X-Factor, Ryan Tedder co-wrote "Bleeding Love," with the artist, helping her rise to stardom in the U.S. The song was incredibly popular; according to OfficialCharts.com, of the 123 million selling singles in the 60 years of the Official Singles Chart has existed, "Bleeding Love" reached the exclusive category. Just a week after Lewis debuted the song in October 2007 on X Factor, it became a number one hit. 

4. Do It Well, Jennifer Lopez

This catchy single off of JLo's Brave album. The hit was the only song to be released in the U.S before the complete album. 

5. Already Gone, Kelly Clarkson

According to Hollywood Gossiper, Perez Hilton, Kelly Clarkson was furious that she thought her hit, "Already Gone," sounded strikingly similar to  "Halo," which Tedder wrote for Beyonce. Nonetheless, Tedder and America's first Idol agreed to get over their differences. "I'm working on stuff for her next album and am personally over any of the drama between the two of us," Tedder said. He also added that "Already Gone" had become a bigger hit than "Halo" ever was.

6. Got 2 Luv U, Sean Paul

Despite the Jamaican vibe of this Sean Paul hit featuring Alexis Jordan, the song was actually co-written by Ryan Tedder.

7. Love Like This, Natasha Bedingfield

The One Republic singer wrote "Love Like This," the hit off Natasha Bedingfield's second album, "Pocket Full Of Sunshine," was performed with Jamaican Rapper, Sean Kingston. The song was released in October 2007 and immediately took up a prominent spot on the radio.

8. Turning Tables, Adele

In addition to "Rumor Has It," Tedder also co-wrote "Turning Tables," a second of British-born singer Adele's instant hits off her album 21. The track earned a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling over 500,000 digital downloads. Plus, according to Billboard.com, "Turning Tables" also ranked numbers 62 and 63 the U.K. Singles Chart and also peaked at number 62 on the U.K. Singles Chart and U.S. Billboard Hot 100 respectively. 

9. The Fighter, Gym Class Heroes

Many people don't know that despite Ryan Tedder's vocal appearance in Gym Class Heroes' video for "The Fighter," the One Republic star actually co-wrote the hit. Travie McCoy also joined Tedder and the Gym Class Heroes in the single from the album "The Papercut Chronicles II." 

10. Brighter Than the Sun, Colbie Caillat

Tedder manifested his diverse portfolio with this hit single from Colbie Caillat. "Brighter Than the Sun" was released in May of 2011 and soon reached the top 50 on the U.S. Billboard 100 chart. The song showcases Caillat's smooth voice and characteristic upbeat tempo. 

11. Apologize, One Republic

While Tedder has a prominent career writing and producing music for a wide range of artists, let's not forget about the first hit that truly showcased his talent. "Apologize" was One Republic's first big hit featuring Timbaland, and it's success truly put the band on the map. The single hit No.1 in 30 countries and according to Tedder, "the song was so disparate to how our album sounded it opened the door to us doing anything."
