Mitch McConnell Campaign Video: WATCH: Did the GOP Really Just Dish Out the Gangsta?

Impact

As the 2014 elections draw near, Democrats need a solid candidate whom they hope could replace the formidable Republican Mitch McConnell as senator in Kentucky. Enter Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Kentucky secretary of state.

Grimes, who is only 34 years old, became the secretary of state of Kentucky in 2011, beating Republican Bill Johnson by a landslide. Following Ashley Judd's decision to not run against McConnell in March, the Democrats have been pressuring Grimes to run, and even recognized her as, according to CNN's Paul Steinhauser, their "best hope to unseat Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in next year's midterm elections." She is to the Kentucky Senate seat as Hillary Clinton is to the presidency.

As soon as Grimes announced her candidacy, the Republican incumbent, who is no stranger to the strategy of attacking his opponents, started to dish out the punches and kicks. One of the ways they did so was through this commercial — a hip-hop style, auto-tuned song called "What Rhymes with Alison Lundergan Grimes?"

I wished this video were fake, created by somebody who wanted to satirize the GOP's frantic scramble to attract younger voters. But the video was actually uploaded by Mitch McConnell's official YouTube channel. If the GOP thinks that this is how to speak the language of millennials, they desperately need to think again.
