An Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 flying in from Seoul crashed while landing on Saturday afternoon at San Francisco International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

An FAA spokesman, Lynn Lunsford, said it was flight No. 214. It was not clear how many people were on board the plane.

CBS Station KPIX reports witnesses heard a loud bang, and saw a huge cloud of smoke.

One passenger, David Eun, tweeted from the ground about the crash.

Images from television station KTVU in San Francisco showed extensive fire damage to the airplane, which lost its tail in the crash, reports Reuters. Fire engines arrived on scene and the fire, which had burned through the cabin's roof, appeared to be out.

A witness managed to capture a video of the wreckage from a waiting area at San Francisco airport.
