Kristin Davis is Out Of Comptrol As NYC Race Gets a Snort Of Something Weird

Impact

Kristin Davis, famously known as the Manhattan Madam and a candidate for New York City comptroller, was arrested today on federal charges of selling prescription pain killers. The FBI announced that Davis had sold hundreds of pills, including oxycodone, to a FBI cooperating witness. "This type of criminal activity is illegal for citizens, and is especially unbecoming for a person seeking public office in the City of New York,” said George Venizelos, FBI assistant director-in-charge. This news displays yet another disgraceful candidate for one of New York City's public offices and makes me wonder how in the world somebody like this even believes that they would be elected.

During a string of arrests following former governor Eliot Spitzer's exposure as a client, Davis was arrested for her involvement with another prostitution ring that also once served Spitzer. Clients of her service supposedly range from the former governor to soccer superstar David Beckham and disgraced baseball star Alex Rodriguez. Davis also has stated that many of her clients were top Wall Street executives. She had black cards for each firm, and the services rendered would be expensed to the company.

In 2010, Davis was a candidate in the New York gubernatorial election. She ran on a platform of marijuana legalization, prostitution, and same-sex marriage. Though she admitted that winning would be a long shot, she continued to campaign across the state. Davis invented her own party dubbed the "Anti-Prohibition Party." In the end, she ended up with 20,898 votes, less than half of what is required to qualify as a political party.

The New York City comptroller race brought new light in Davis' political career, but that all ended today, sadly. If she is convicted, Davis could face up to 80 years in prison for selling the drugs for cash.

The races for mayor and comptroller have brought tremendous controversy to the political atmosphere of NYC. As a native, I am extremely concerned about the state of these upcoming elections. I hear more news and discussion about the exploits and illegal activities of some of the candidates, instead of what issues they are going to address and how they are going to help this city. Enough is enough.
