UN Security Council Resolution Sought By Obama

Impact

President Obama said that he will send Secretary of State John Kerry to meet with Russian diplomats to shape a deal regarding Syria's chemical weapons. He also said that he will meet with Vladimir Putin toward the same end, while also working closely with France and the UK, and also China to craft a resolution that can pass the United Nations Security Council.

The UNSC is a 15-member body, five of which are permanent members: the U.S., U.K., France, Russia, and China. These five states wield veto power over resolutions at the council, meaning one of these countries can effectively kill any proposed measure with which it disagrees.
