Ted Cruz Reads 'Green Eggs and Ham,' Unwittingly Debunks Own Anti-Obamacare Agenda

Impact

During his pseudo-filibuster Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) read aloud, in its entirety, Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss to his young daughters watching at home. While not Seuss' magnum opus, it is a memorable tale of epic obstinacy. Throughout the book, an unnamed character is relentlessly hounded by the intrusive Sam-I-Am, who presses him to eat green eggs and ham. For what seems like hundreds of pages, the stubborn character is resolute, refusing to give in by eating green eggs and ham, however they may be served. But at the end of the book, the protagonist reverses course after finally agreeing to try green eggs and ham, which it turns out, he actually likes.

The parallels between the unnamed character and the GOP, and Sam-I-Am and Obama, are uncanny. For four years, Obama has asked the GOP repeatedly to try Obamacare and see if they like it. At every step of the way, they've said they will not try green eggs an — I mean Obamacare, which has yet to go into full effect. Perhaps Cruz and his Tea Party cohorts should take a lesson from Dr. Seuss. After all, he was a doctor.
