Ted Cruz Fauxbuster Passes The 20 Hour Mark

Impact

Ted Cruz has been speaking on the Senate floor since 2:41 p.m. yesterday afternoon, and with some help from a few other Senators, crossed well past the twenty hour mark. Unfortunately for Ted, this won't go on record as a true filibuster; otherwise, it'd be the fourth longest in Senate history, beating out Robert La Follette's in 1908.

Cruz can't actually delay the procedural vote he is trying to delay, as the Senate is set to adjourn and noon and then reconvene at 1 p.m. for the vote, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid controlling the floor. So this isn't so much as a filibuster as it is simply Ted Cruz talking for a really long time.

And Cruz's takeover of the Senate floor has not been without its highlights.

Sen. Rand Paul, fresh off his own filibuster in March, dropped by yesterday evening with a few questions for Cruz:

Sen. Mike Lee dropped by to ask a 45-minute question, which prompted Cruz to quote Star Wars:

And of course, Cruz read "Green Eggs and Ham" on the Senate floor last night to his young daughters:

Cruz's fauxbuster also included references to "Atlas Shrugged," Ashton Kutcher, and Duck Dynasty.

As of 11:30 a.m., Cruz promised there is "strength in my legs to stand a little longer."

We'll see what happens when Reid kicks him out at noon.
