Virginia Governor Poll: Where the Candidates Stand

In a poll published by the Washington Post on Monday, McAuliffe led Cuccinelli by 8 points. According to a NBC 4 Washington poll, however, Cuccinelli has closed in on his opponent if only slightly, tightening the race to a 5 point margin as he trails McAuliffe 43% to 38%. A third candidate, Libertarian Robert Sarvis, stands at 8%.

While McAuliffe enjoys a comfortable lead among women, Cuccinelli is still the favorite among male voters. But Cuccinelli has to work on his image with voters, as more view him unfavorably (47%) than favorable (34%).
