Government Shutdown Deal Being Floated

Impact

Politico is reporting that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and the Senate Republican Conference are exploring the possibility of passing a stop-gap measure that would prevent the federal government from shutting down at midnight. If successful, this would allow the House and Senate to work toward a long-term solution to fund the government.

The House has passed C.R. 59 two weeks ago, which would fund the government until December 15, but has no chance of passing the Democrat-controlled Senate because it would pull funding for Obamacare. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said that any spending bill seeking to defund Obamacare is "dead" in the Senate.
