With approximately 30% of precincts reporting, Republican candidate Ken Cuccinelli is maintaining a solid but shrinking lead over Democrat Terry McAuliffe. Cuccinelli leads at 51.4% of the vote with 299,210 votes, and McAuliffe trails at 41.4% and 241,138.

However, as more votes roll in, McAuliffe is certain to gain steam. Democrats traditionally poll better than they perform electorally, but the pre-election poll seemed to get Cuccinelli a serious disadvantage:
