NYC Tech Community Rallies Together to Help Reinvent the Way Our Generation Does Activism

Impact

Guatemala is a beautiful country, home to remarkable cultural marvels of legendary Mayan civilization. But, it's also a country plagued by extreme poverty, illiteracy, disease, and lack of access to education.

The stats are shocking: 24% of Guatamala's population are still illiterate; only 50% of children enroll in secondary school education; 45,000 children were out of school in 2010; and only three out of 10 students ever finish the sixth grade.

What if you could change that? What if everyday people could make a difference? Tech start-up General Assembly and education non-profit Pencils of Promise are giving you the opportunity to do just that.

Here's how this exciting new model of non-profit activism works: General Assembly will fly you and a friend on a trip to Guatemala, where you'll have the chance to help build a school that will give Guatamalan children the education they deserve. All you have to do is enter your email to win. Even if they don't pick you, General Assembly will donate $2.50 in your name toward this cause.
