Ms. Bum Bum is a Real Thing in Brazil and It's Awesome

Impact

Dai Macedo, a 25-year-old model, has been crowned Brazil's new Miss Bum Bum despite a scandal-plagued competition that featured allegations of bribery.

The bizarre competition sets out to find the Brazilian female with the most "bodacious" behind, and it is very popular in Brazil. According to the Huffington Post, "Miss Bum Bum winners become instant celebrities in Brazil, and receive a fortune in endorsements."

I guess that is why Macedo thought the competition was worth so much hard work. "It's a lot of work, a lot of devotion," she said. "I denied myself a lot of things. No nightclubs. No sweets. I went to the gym Saturdays and Sundays."

"It's no longer a secret to anyone that Miss Bumbum has been bought and already has a winner, Mari Sousa," competitor Poliana Lopes told the Daily Mail. "I'm very sad because the result isn't deserved, and her bottom isn't the most beautiful, which in a serious contest would be more right. I hope filling her pockets with money makes her happy."

Setting aside the obvious questions the competition raises about objectifying women, I guess we should all be happy that at least Macedo won instead of Sousa or Amaral.

Oh yeah, and in case you're wondering, "Bumbum" is a word that, in Brazil, refers to someone's rear end.
