Live: New York Republican Primary: Who Won?

Impact

Experts expect few surprises in New York's primary, where Mitt Romney is forecasted to win the state's 95 delegates. Of all five states going to the polls on Tuesday, New York holds the most delegates.

In the run-up to election day Newt Gingrich visited New York last week, attending the state party's annual dinner in Manhattan last Thursday, and campaigning in Buffalo on Friday. Ron Paul spoke at Cornell University last Thursday.

Although Rick Santorum has suspended his campaign, votes cast for Santorum will not be voided.

Live Updates: 9:40 PM Romney Wins: With 6% reporting, Romney is the projected winner with 56% of the vote. Paul and Gingrich still slugging it out for second.

9:30 PM With 4% of polls reporting, Romney steady at 56%. Gingrich in second with 17% Paul is in third with 15%

9:25 PM Romney still strong with 55%

9:20 PM Finally, the Results Come In: With 1% of polling stations reporting, Romney is up big with 56% of the vote. Gingrich and Paul are battling it out at the bottom with 17% and 16% respectively.

Romney's Big Speech: Romney switches into General Election mode, saying, "A new America begins tonight."

Romney's campaign is casting the Tuesday night victory speech he makes in New Hampshire, the state in which he kicked off his campaign and that handed him his first primary victory this cycle, as a pivot to the general election campaign.

"We launched this campaign not far from here on a beautiful June day. It has been long and extraordinarily rewarding," Romney will say, according to advance excerpts released to reporters.

The excerpts preview a speech in which Romney will maintain his argument that the Obama presidency has been an economic failure.

Romney will also address the issue of wealth and financial success, a thorny issue that he has stumbled over during the campaign.

"I see an America with a growing middle class, with rising standards of living," Romney will say. "I see children even more successful than their parents -- some successful even beyond their wildest dreams -- and others congratulating them for their achievement, not attacking them for it."

9:08 Still Nothing. Polling stations have yet to report. Romnye has added Pennsylvania to his win tally tonight.

8:45 PM Still No Polling Stations Reporting. Romney, though, has cleaned up tonight,  winning contests in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Delaware. Newt Gingrich is just about done.

8:38 PM Still No Results...

12:00 PM Polls across the state are officially opened. Registered Republicans can vote until 9 p.m.

9:30 AM Manhattan poll worker Lucy Harden told The New York Times that only three or four people had arrived at her polling station to vote -- one person per hour.

6:00 AM Polls opened in New York City and Eerie County at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 9 p.m. There is no Democratic presidential primary in the state.
