This Movie Star Performed With Broadway Legends — And Nailed It

Last night, CBS aired the 36th annual Kennedy Center Honors, and boy was it one for the books. Opera singer Martina Arroyo, bandleader and composer Herbie Hancock, singer-songwriter Billy Joel, actress Shirley MacLaine, and musician Carlos Santana were all honored at the ceremony, but it was the performance of one Anna Kendrick that stole the show.

During the live tribute to Shirley MacLaine, which focused heavily on the actress's long stage career, Kendrick made us fall in love with her all over again during an amazing medley performance.

Forget the fact that she was performing in front of a packed house that included President Obama, Glenn Close, Kathy Bates, and Stevie Wonder, and was singing alongside Broadway superstars like Patina Miller, Karen Olivo, and Sutton Foster — my girl Anna nailed it. 

Anyone who's been following the 28-year-old Kendrick's career knows she has talent, but it's been a while since she's performed live like this. Kendrick made a big musical splash with her excellent performance in 2012's Pitch Perfect and her aca-mazing single "Cups (When I'm Gone)," but she's actually been in the music theater biz for a while now. Alongside her non-musical work in movies such as 50/50, Up in the Air, and the Twilight series, Kendrick had a fiendishly fun performance in 2003's cult classic Camp and snagged a Tony nomination for her performance as Dinah in High Society on Broadway when she was just 12 years old!
