What Makes You Happy — In One Infographic

Impact

What's the key to happiness? According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, in order to achieve one's fullest potential, one must have a life purpose. But in the United States, ranked the 17th happiest country in the world, it seems a majority of people seek happiness through chemical dependencies rather than inner peace.

The U.S. is home to a prescription painkiller epidemic, of sorts. A 2013 Mayo Clinic study found that nearly 70% of Americans are on at least one prescription drug while more than half of Americans take two. Antidepressants were the second most commonly prescribed prescription drug, and opioid painkillers were the third most common. This is pretty troubling given the abuse potential of many prescription drugs, particularly opioids like OxyContin and Percocet.
