These Gorgeous Olympic Skeleton Helmets Are Making a Sochi Fashion Statement

At this year's opening ceremonies in Sochi, we got a glimpse of Olympic uniforms from around the world, many of which were pretty cool — the German uniforms are particularly impressive. But these looks were what you might call the athletes "casual wear," stuff to wear around the Olympic village or during official ceremonies.

These were not, however, what the Olympians would be wearing during their competitions. Because of various factors, athletes' actual competition uniforms are often more subdued and borderline dull. Of course, this isn't always the case (solid work, Norway curling team), but it's always cool to see certain athletes take the creativity we see in the opening ceremonies uniforms and bring it to the field.

One group of athletes that readily embracing this idea is the Olympic skeleton competitors. It's a natural fit: because each athlete is competing individually, there's less of a concern for team coordination and because they're lying prone, their helmets lead the way and are very visible. Here are a few of the most badass skeleton helmets at this year's winter Olympics.
