Impact

Coming out is a very important moment for a gay person, and it can be done in all sorts of different ways and in different stages. Though some people choose to come out privately or quietly, Ellen Page came out in a very public and proud way.

"I'm here today because I am gay. And because ... maybe I can make a difference [...] I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission," the 26-year-old Canadian actress said during a speech at an event called Time to THRIVE held by the the Human Rights Campaign. "I suffered for years, because I was scared to be out."

The whole thing is pretty great, but if you're tight on time, skip to around the six-minute mark for some of the best moments.

Then there was the public outpouring of support for her courageous and beautiful speech.

Understandably, Ellen was pretty grateful.
