Zooey Deschanel on Broadway, What to Expect From Mick Jagger on SNL, and This Week in Pop Culture

Culture

Another massive week in the history of the world. Greece is out of control, Mark Zuckerberg is way richer than the rest of us, and Mitt Romney gave us this flavorful quote: "I'm not familiar, precisely, with exactly what I said, but I stand by what I said, whatever it was." Looking back at the week, let's take a moment to sit back, relax, and appreciate all the biggest stories in arts and entertainment. We've gotta reflect now ... there's no telling what next week might bring.

TV: Mick Jagger's Got the Moves

Good things on the TV horizon, and let's have the oldest star go first. Tomorrow night. NBC. Mick Jagger. Saturday Night Live. The 69-year-old sex symbol (yes) is hosting the season finale. Emotionally preparing for him to dance to 'Moves Like Jagger.' Also, fingers crossed they deal with this moment in his life:

In other TV news, after years of watching her as Kelly on The Office I'm massively excited for one thing this fall, Mindy Kaling's new show which was picked up by Fox. Preview here!

MUSIC: Rockstar family feud

In other throw-back news, couch commentators around the world are up-in-arms about the news that Van Halen has canceled 31 of their summer tour dates ... rumor has it they're in a feud ... again. So now, all those fans excited to see these guys:

will have to set their sights on a more modern musical moment. Nicki Minaj started her 'round the world tour just this week.

Finally, we can't leave this week in music without saving the last dance for singer Donna Summer who passed away on Thursday. The Queen of Disco indeed.

MOVIES: Millionaires make ... millions

News broke this week that Robert Downey Jr. will make a whopping $50 million off of The Avengers. With that much money he can almost buy one of these:

or, he could blow the whole pay-check on one of these:

In other news, the famed Cannes Film Festival began in France this week. The biggest buzz is surrounding Wes Anderson's (writer of The Royal Tenenbaums) new flick Moonrise Kingdom. The movie is wall-to-wall with movie stars such as Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Harvey Keitel, and Frances McDormand. Phew.

And my personal favorite movie news of the week! Downton Abbey's Cousin Matthew (aka Dan Stevens) and Freida Pinto, of Slumdog Millionaire fame, signed on to do a film adaption of the 2007 best-seller The Catastrophist. One word: yay.

Oh, and also, this happened:

THEATER: Broadway preps for a hoedown

"Adorkable" Zooey Deschanel is adding cowboy boots to her New Girl hipster-gear. She's heading to Broadway to play country singer Loretta Lynn in a production of the Coal Miner's Daughter.

This face....

Is turning into this face...

And with that final thought I bid you good weekend. Enjoy the knowledge. Tell me what I missed. And let's start taking guesses for next week's news.
