Bill Clinton is Pro-Romney? Former President Defends Bain Capital

Impact

President Bill Clinton pulled a Cory Booker during a CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" interview to be aired this Thursday (Watch the video below).

“I don’t think we ought to get in the position to say ‘this is bad work,'" said the former president referring to the Obama campaign’s characterizations of Mitt Romney’s work at private equity firm Bain Capital.

Clinton even went as far as suggesting that likely Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is qualified to be President of the United States:

“There’s no question that, in terms of getting up and going to the office, basically performing the essential functions of the office, a man who was governor and had a sterling business career, crosses the qualification threshold,” the former president said of Romney.

The comments will likely cause a stir in a Democratic Party which, given May’s dissapointing unemployment numbers, finds itself in disarray as a general election which could sweep Republicans back into the Senate and the White House enters full gear.

It also highlights what New York Times columnist David Brooks called "a potentially self-destructive" Democratic campaign, as it comes on the heels of Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker’s fall from grace by criticizing President Obama's attacks on the private equity industry, including Romney's firm Bain Capital.

Booker, who recently had been lauded as a hero for rescuing one of his neighbors and constituents from a fire, backpedaled in his criticism in a public relations mishap that ended with the mayor’s communication director Anne Torres stepping down.

Will President Clinton be ostracized as Mayor Cory Booker was?
