Following a competitive national selection process, 10 young Americans have been selected from around the nation to lead the American delegation as one of the host nations at this summer’s G8 and G20 Youth Summits. Each of these delegates represent the best and brightest in fields across a vast variety of topics. They will either chair or co-chair eight committees, where issues from environmental to defense to economic will be discussed by the experts from each of the delegations.

The G8 and G20 Youth Summits will run from June 3 through 10 at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The Summits convene the world’s best and brightest young professionals to represent the cultures, values, and interests of their homelands. Nearly 200 delegates from the G8 and G20 nations will participate in week-long negotiations on a range of issues related to environmental, defense, and financial policy among other topics. The goal of the Summits is to produce a final communiqué that will outline proposed solutions to international issues to be formally presented at a press conference on Friday, June 8th and then circulated to the various governments and the public at large.

This year’s Summits are being co-hosted by Young Americans for Diplomatic Leadership (YADL), a not-for-profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia. YADL promotes understanding of international diplomacy through experiential learning for students and young professionals in the United States. To this end, YADL recruits, selects, and organizes the American delegation to the G8 & G20 Youth Summits each year, and serves as the American representative organizing committee to the G8 & G20 Youth Network.
