The Newest Trailer for the Controversial Murder Mystery 'Gone Girl' Is Here

Gillian Flynn's controversial novel Gone Girl is coming to the big screen later this year, but for now we are subsisting on trailers. A new one arrived on Monday.

Starring Rosamund Pike as the maybe-murdered wife of maybe-murderer Ben Affleck, the novel version of Gone Girl (a best-seller) received a whole lot of flack for its femme fatale leading lady. The crux of the argument against the Gone Girl story rests on the notion that Flynn's work seems to hold what the Guardian calls a "deep animosity towards women." That conversation will surely be resurrected as we inch closer and closer to the movie version's release date, though the movie's approach of that subject is still up for debate.

According to Flynn though, the third act of her novel has undergone a major overhaul in the screenplay version, which she also penned. Whether this will appease the skeptics or not is still up in the air, but the trailer promises a film as taut and second-guess-filled as the original novel.

The film also stars Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens and Missi Pyle. Gone Girl is directed by David Fincher, whose previous work includes The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Gone Girl hits theaters Oct. 3, 2014.
