The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, filmed in Shanghai, aired on Nov. 28 — but the prep was wrought with problems.
Some models from Russia and Ukraine who were set to walk were reportedly denied Chinese visas, so they couldn’t strut down the VS runway.
TV producers were at odds with Chinese bureaucrats in regard to even filming in China at all, outside of the arena where the VS show took place.
Some called for Hadid to not walk after her sister posted an offensive video of her to social media in early 2017.
At press time, Hadid had yet to give an explanation for not walking herself, but her sister, Bella Hadid, still walked.
Rumors circulated that the decision stemmed from her performing in Taiwan in 2015 in a dress covered in sunflowers, which were used by anti-China protesters.
Per Page Six, Chinese officials are known to comb through the history of performers, looking out for offensive or anti-Chinese sentiments.
